The first half of 2026 marks a dynamic period for LANXESS arena in Cologne-Deutz. A total of 1,322,994 guests attended events at Germany’s largest indoor venue since January. These figures underline the arena’s role as a key driver within Cologne’s MICE industry and as a high-performance venue in the international event market.
On a global level, LANXESS arena ranks fifth worldwide in the Pollstar Mid-Year Ranking for concert and entertainment ticket sales. As sports events are not included in this ranking, the result further demonstrates the venue’s competitive position among leading international arenas.
Major sporting events contributed significantly to attendance levels. The Handball Final4 tournaments, an international match of the German national team and further championships attracted large audiences. During the 2025/26 season, the Kölner Haie ice hockey team set a new European record for the third consecutive year, averaging 18,112 spectators per home game and surpassing the 18,000 mark for the first time. The team also achieved a 16-game winning streak in the PENNY DEL regular season.
Cologne’s traditional carnival format “Lachende Kölnarena” once again proved to be a cornerstone of the event calendar. Across 16 editions, including a dedicated family format, the event reached new benchmarks. On 7 February 2026, 18,500 guests attended a single session – the highest number ever recorded for the format.
Beyond sports and carnival, the arena hosted a broad range of international and national concerts, comedy shows, festivals and B2B formats such as the Greator Festival and IEM Cologne Major. This diversity reflects the venue’s flexibility for corporate events, congresses and large-scale productions.
A recent study conducted in cooperation with the German Sport University Cologne estimates that arena visitors generate approximately €341 million in annual spending within the city. Around 90 percent of guests travel from outside Cologne. The findings are based on surveys of 5,219 attendees across 14 events and highlight the economic impact on hotels, gastronomy and service providers.
