The soft refurbishment aimed not only to visually enhance the public areas but to create experiential spaces: warmer materials, flexible seating arrangements, and optimized outdoor areas provide room for work, meetups, celebrations, and cultural formats.
At the heart of the concept is the Artelier with its four areas — Rooftop, Terrace, Buffet Restaurant, and Lounge Bar — all of which can be flexibly used as a party location, get-together spot, networking venue, or event space for B2B and B2C formats. The rooftop with views of the Rhine is ideal for receptions, chill-out parties, and events; the terrace is perfect for summer BBQs, after-work gatherings, a winter Christmas market, and as an informal networking location. A new buffet restaurant offers vibrant, seasonal, and shareable food stations for receptions, business catering, private celebrations, and culinary events. The lounge bar serves as a community hub for locals and guests, featuring signature cocktails, bar snacks, and a regular program — from DJ nights (every first Friday of the month) and cocktail classes to special evenings such as Zumba, Spanish, or Italiano nights.
Event Space for every Occasion
The Artelier is actively marketed as a partner for partnership marketing, PR events, art events, corporate celebrations, and private functions. It accommodates a wide range of formats, from intimate art exhibitions to large-scale networking events and product launches. Indoor and outdoor areas can be combined for barbecues, pop-ups, Christmas markets, or hybrid events.
The redesigned spaces frame the existing art collection by artist SEO and connect culture with gastronomy and events: her collage-like works, predominantly made from colored rice paper torn into strips, create a warm contrast to the concrete walls that preserve the contemporary character. As an investment of Arena Hospitality Group, art’otel Cologne sees itself not just as a hotel, but as an open meeting place for the city — a destination where hotel guests, companies, and the people of Cologne can celebrate, network, and experience culture alike.
“We don’t see art’otel Cologne simply as a hotel, but as a living contribution to the city’s cultural landscape: the redesign is intended to enrich the neighborhood and establish the public areas as vibrant meeting points. Especially the bar and the adjoining terrace are meant to become lively gathering places for residents and visitors alike during spring and summer,” explains Hans de Waart, the new General Manager of art’otel Cologne.
