Some places are far more than culinary destinations – they are stages for encounters, decisions and lasting memories. For five decades, the Hanse Stube at Excelsior Hotel Ernst has been one of these exceptional venues. On 12 January 2026, the renowned restaurant celebrates its 50th anniversary, looking back on a legacy defined by culinary excellence, consistency and genuine Rhenish hospitality.
Since opening in 1976, the former grill room has evolved into the culinary heart of the hotel and is widely regarded as the “living room of Cologne”. To this day, Hanse Stube stands for outstanding cuisine, discreet service and an atmosphere ideally suited for both private celebrations and high-level business formats. Mahogany panelling, fine English furniture, valuable artworks and bespoke porcelain and cutlery create a timeless setting – the perfect backdrop for confidential discussions, exclusive business dinners and special occasions.
To mark the anniversary, Executive Chef Lars Wolf revives selected classics from the restaurant’s historic recipe archive. From 12 January to 1 February 2026, guests are invited to enjoy an exclusive five-course anniversary menu, taking them on a culinary journey through five decades of gastronomic heritage. The menu is complemented by a carefully curated selection of fine wines from the respective decades.
For event planners and organisers, Hanse Stube offers more than an exceptional dining experience. It is a venue defined by history, character and reliability – an ideal setting for premium MICE formats where atmosphere, discretion and quality are key.
