There was great excitement at the HARBOUR.CLUB in Cologne when the winners of the ‘Caterer of the Year 2024’ award were announced. The emotional highlight was the presentation of the special award to event caterer lemonpie. The company was able to convincingly demonstrate its current innovation efforts in the area of sustainability with the new event concept ‘ZERO WASTE - PURE PLEASURE’, which it developed in collaboration with the market leader for packaging solutions, PAPSTAR. ‘We have to be bold and think sustainability “out of the box”. The circular economy starts with the product: the symbiosis of clever processes in the disposable tableware and high-quality catering sectors is heralding a new era. Design for recycling!’ is how Stephanie Forstner, Sustainability Officer at lemonpie Eventcatering, summarises the concept.
The smart disposable tableware made from renewable raw materials is not only biodegradable and recyclable, but can also be fully returned to the material cycle by means of a fibre-recovering treatment process in a specially designed bio-converter (composting machine). The volume-reduced output material can be reused in the production of new cardboard products.
This guarantees a future-oriented circular economy and a reduction in CO2 emissions while maintaining cost-effectiveness and quality and aesthetics. ‘Our partnership with lemonpie shows how visionary ideas and reliable products can be combined to create a concept that changes industry standards. Together, we are setting standards for responsible action in the event industry and showing that regional cooperation can lead to extraordinary results,’ says Bernd Born, Head of Media, Communication & Marketing at PAPSTAR.
In addition to this outstanding award, lemonpie Eventcatering is particularly proud to be making a strong contribution to the Euskirchen business location together with PAPSTAR Solutions GmbH.
