The market is thus recovering noticeably, as this represents a 110% increase in events compared to the Corona year 2021. Particularly high growth was seen in event venues. In terms of attendees, the growth is 154%, and again, the growth is strongest in event venues.
Changes were also calculated compared to 2019, the last "normal" year before Covid. Here, the change in events is -23%, meaning the 2022 numbers are currently at 77% of the pre-Covid level. For participants, the change is -17% (83% of the pre-Covid level).
Similarly, the percentage of foreign participants has risen sharply again. At 3.2%, it is above the levels of the last two years (0.7% and 2.9%), but still below the pre-Covid level of 6.5% (2019).
In terms of origin of tour operators, Cologne's own region loses a bit of dominance (from 77% to 70%) and all other regions increase in return, including of course tour operators from abroad from 1.5% to 2.6%.
The most important foreign source markets in 2022 were the "traditional" contenders Great Britain and the Netherlands, then already followed by the USA, which was understandably a little further behind in the pandemic. Switzerland and France follow behind.
